I had meant to book at the Ibis hotel next door instead of the budget. That is a mistake I will not make again. For nearly the same nightly cost that I paid for this hotel, I stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels elsehwere in Europe, including another Ibis (not Budget) with much more comfortable accomodations and better amenities. For only about 10-12 CHF less per night than the Ibis next door, we were subjected to an "extreme efficiency" room with a thin mattress and two flat pillows on a wire bedframe, in a room with hard floors and cinder block walls. There was barely enough room to walk around the bed, much less store our luggage. The "desk" was a small counter in the corner with a plastic bucket/stool to sit on. The bathroom was not a separate room (except for the WC which did have a door) but rather a shower module crammed into the corner next to a tiny sink not even large enough for one person to use, much less two. I might have been able to manage this room when I was a college student, and/or if the savings on the nightly rate had been worth it. But as noted, it really wasn't that much less expensive than better hotels, both within Zurich (on the same block!) and elsewhere. I doubt I will ever stay at an Ibis Budget again, though I will happily stay at other Ibis/Accor properties. That all said, the staff were helpful and friendly. It's not their fault the facilities did not live up to my expectations.
